Urban Decay Sweet Cream

What They Say: "For skin that feels like butter, insist on Sweet Cream. This moisturizing mist sprays onto skin, then dries down to leave your bod soft and refreshed. Try it, and get a taste of creamy milkmaid skin…relish the satiny-smooth texture. Sweet Cream treats you to vitamins A, C & E and mineral-rich sea salts, and the unique spray-on application leaves behind indulgent moisture without a mess. Fill Weight 260g e / 9.2 US oz
* Ultra-light formula sprays on as a thin mist, dries down, and is non-greasy.
* Bottle is decorated with retro dairy-inspired graphics."

Melissa's DeLush Downlow: This stuff smells just wonderful; it's sort of coconut-y and sugar cookie all mixed together, though the scent itself is not overbearing at all. I like the ease of a spray lotion. Putting this on after your bath or shower will force you into feeling fresh and happy - there's just no getting around it. As far as moisturizing goes, spray liberally to get the best effect, but your skin may not feel as hydrated as you want it to be with this alone. Soft, yes - but it's not super-moisturizing. If that's the case, you can always apply this over your favorite lotion (minimal scent so as not to compete with this one). If it's mostly that lovely sweet smell and a touch of softness you're going for, apply alone anytime. Lasts well during the day, too.

Urban Decay Flavored Body Powders

What They Say: "Dust it on and let someone else kiss it away! Sweeten your look or give it a sexy kick by slipping on a seductive sheen. Urban Decay Body Powders in 9 tasty (but not sticky) formulas.

Urban Decay Flavored Body Powders gives skin a long-lasting radiant glow. Dust on shoulders, face, or decolletage with Urban Decay's signature leopard puff for glistening, soiree glamour. Makes a scrumptious gift for you, your man, or a friend. Urban Decay's Flavored Body Powders are sparkly, scented and delicious, just try them and see. Mix and match for new flavors. "

Jen's Experience:  To me, Urban Decay's body powders are the epitomy of a product that makes it fun to be a girl.  I've been using their Honey flavor for a year or so now, and recently, I just purchased the Peppermint flavor.  They give just a little sparkle to your arms and decolletage.  I like to use the Honey flavor in the summer to give an extra dimension to my seasonal tan.  The Peppermint is perfect for the winter if you are wearing a lowcut dress or an evening gown.  The smells are more noticeable at first, but once you've worn them for a while, they tend to dissipate.  They are certainly not strong enough to compete with your perfume.   Same goes for the flavor: it has a slight flavor at first that will dissipate over the night, which could also be because it tends to rub off easily.

Tips:  If you are using this for the shimmer rather than the taste, I recommend putting on a thick moisturizer underneath and applying the powder on top to give it something to stick to.   But if you really want the taste experience, make sure you let it sit for a bit before you do anything that might make it rub off, like putting on a wrap or a jacket.

Review: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Ammo Palette

urbandecayammo.jpgWhat They Say: “Covered in touchable, matte black paper, the compact features a mesmerizing assortment of UD elements - animals, hearts, skulls, and flourishes - gently wafting from a pistol in overlapping textures of violet metallic foil and rich velvety flocking. Upon opening the kit, you're met with endless eye options: 10 best-selling shadows are arranged as five sets of coordinating duos, running the gamut from subtle to sexy. The slim case is complete with a perfectly sized mirror, applicators, and a magnetic closure, so it's sure to stay closed in your handbag.”

Alissa’s Opinion: This is absolutely the best designed palette I have ever owned. The velvety designs, the sleek purple and black case, the magnetic closure and the huge mirror are enough for me to love even without the gorgeous shadows!

The colors that are included in this kit are all perfect for evening looks, but a few of them are nice everyday shadows as well. Sin (light shimmering champagne) is a great base color that works with all the other shades. There is also a highlighting shade, Polyester Bride, and a sparkly black, Oil Slick, that works well as a dramatic liner. All the other colors coordinate with each other for a great smoky eye look. Some of them have a lot of glitter that gets all over the place if you aren’t careful (and maybe even if you are), but it’s so worth it. Basically, if you only plan on buying one product to update your winter look, this one has everything you need and is beautiful to boot!

Review: Urban Decay Urban Arsenal Palette

What They Say: "Your walk of shame has never looked better. The Urban Arsenal is jam-packed with the essentials of Urban Decay for eyes, lips, cheeks and face – in warm, wearable shades designed to work for everyone. Thanks to its portable setup, Urban Decay addicts will love this kit just as much as a newbie looking for a sampler of our best offerings.

Eyeshadow Primer Potion – Our runaway cult product makes Eyeshadow stick like magic!

Mascara – Lengthens and thickens in basic black.

Big Fatty Lip Plumper – A warm shimmer and up to a 20% fuller pout!

Naked XXX Shine Lip Gloss – Our extra, extra, extra shiny gloss in a neutral hue.

Afterglow Blush in Score – Ultra-sheer blush in a peachy-gold with a touch of shimmer.

Eyeshadows – What we do best! Four of our best shades.

Sleek and shiny, the lavender foil case is decked out with a black fabric patch, beautifully embroidered with thorny roses and a stylized Urban Decay logo. Perfect for overnight stays (we won’t ask where), the case includes an oversized built-in mirror and magnetic closure."

Jen's Experience: Although I've reviewed a lot of these products before, I was thrilled to get to try them as part of the Urban Arsenal. Once I started using this palette I was hooked; the colors together are all I need for color for work and even for evenings.

The eyeshadows in this palette are gold, sand and brown, the perfect combination for the gold smoky eye or just a nice bright neutral look. My favorite combination was covering most of the eye area with Half-Baked, putting Roach in the crease of my eye. I also used Roach wet as eyeliner, although I think a darker brown gives a little more contrast. Placing Shotgun right on the apple of my eyelid was perfect for brightening up the eye area, but I found that both Shotgun and Midnight Cowboy Rides Again resulted in little flecks of glitter all over my face, so I limited the use of the more sparkly colors for evening wear. I'd never used the Eyeshadow Primer Potion before (and I believe that Jamie has a full review of that product in the future) but I noticed that my eyeshadow and eyeliner really stay put with this potion. The Urban Decay eyeshadows don't normally smudge for me anyway, but the potion gave them extra staying power.

Two items I have reviewed before with good results are the Big Fatty Lip Plumper and the Naked XXX Shine Lip Gloss, both of which continue to be in my regular rotation. Perhaps you're supposed to use one or the other since they're both fairly sheer, but I chose to layer the lip plumper with the lip gloss, resulting in plumped up, shiny lips with a pinker tone than my natural lip color.

For me, the weakest link in this palette was the mascara. Much like their Skyscraper mascara, it wouldn't quite stay in place for me. It's not as bad about the football eye effect as a lot of mascaras for me, but it still resulted in some grayish color under my eyes. I had slightly better results putting some lash primer underneath.

My absolute favorite part of this palette is the blush in Score. The color is generally coral but it has a hint of pink. The result? A color that looks great on a variety of skin tones. Even if you don't rush right out and get the Urban Arsenal, I think the blush in Score would be a great purchase on its own.

All of this is wrapped in a great purple shiny case with a very large mirror and magnetic closure. The design on the top is actually a cross-stitched piece of fabric. It's super-cute, but it's just the package for an overall great palette.

Fall Product Review: Urban Decay Lip Envy

What They Say: "Subtle, but never unnoticed, this water-rich stain provides a long-lasting, semi-permanent wash worth lusting after. Take a dip & anoint your lips with a sheer veil of vanilla-scented color, or layer for a deep, inky stain. Made with powerful antioxidants, including Vitamin E, Green Tea, Chamomile & Ginkgo Biloba extracts, Lip Envy applies cool, then dries down to a semi-matte finish – perfect when you’re not in the mood for a thick gloss. Housed in a sexy inkwell, Lip Envy features a flocked applicator for precise application."

Jen's Experience: To me, these stains are anything but subtle, but that's not a bad thing when I'm choosing lip colors this season. After trying Envious, Jealous and Greedy, I found that the colors for these lip stains to be just what I needed to brighten up my fall wardrobe. Envious, my favorite, is a hot pink that makes my skin glow and my teeth look ultra-white. Greedy, a top-selling color on the Urban Decay site, is a plum color just right for the lilac lips trend popular this fall. Jealous looks almost chocolate in the vial, but turns out to be a nude color that works really well with my light skin tone.

The lip stains themselves apply easily using the applicator provided, and do go on more subtly at first, but can be layered for a more vibrant color. I found that on my dry lips, the color penetrated quickly no matter how many layers of stain I applied, and could not be removed without make-up remover even moments after application.

This season, lips should be less fussy than in previous seasons, but when the lip stain didn't penetrate evenly due to my dry lips, I felt the need to "even it out", and at that point the layered color got a bit sticky. Still, if any of the cosmetic companies who were trying for long-lasting lip color had ever gotten this close, I would have been jumping for joy. The stain lasts for hours, and because it's a stain, it doesn't transfer to my beverage glass. It's a whole new world for me.

If you're the kind of person who really feels the need to have moisture on your lips at all times, I will say, it doesn't last as long with balm before application or gloss after application (I tried both). I was so relieved that I didn't have to repply my lip color constantly with bright colors like these, I was able to resist the temptation to gloss constantly.

Overall, this is a fabulous product and definitely one to add for your shopping list for the season.

"Envious"

"Greedy"

Tips: When choosing your color, remember that the color on your lips is much lighter than the color in the vial, so don't feel intimidated by the ultra-bright shades. If you do choose to wear a gloss over the lip stain, be sure to let the stain dry completely to extend the life of the color.

Fall Product Review: Urban Decay Ultraglide Lip Gloss

ultraglide.jpgWhat They Say: "Enhance your intimate experiences. The love child of lip gloss and lipstick, Ultraglide provides the ultra-slick texture of a deluxe gloss with the semi-opaque color of a lipstick. The result: deep, rich color and beautiful coverage without the tackiness of other glosses. Featuring antioxidant Vitamin E and skin conditioners, the unique (and provocative) lightweight texture offers a smooth glide that takes lethal lips to an entirely new level. And to further heighten your pleasure, each shade is laced with a unique flavor. Mmmm.

Packaged in a long, sleek squeeze tube with a slanted, soft-tech applicator tip, Ultraglide looks sexy and feels great too. Fill weight: 8.6ml e 0.29 US fl oz"

Melissa's DeLush Downlow: Each shade of this gloss has its own disctint hint of flavor that lingers on your lips as long as the gloss is there. (Think vanilla, chocolate, sour candy, strawberry, chocolate-mint, etc. - some more appealing than others.)

The two downfalls? Realistically, this gloss only lasts for about 2 hours without feeling like it needs to be re-applied. Also, though the long tubes are sleek and fun, you sometimes find yourself having to squeeze UP it like a half-full tube of tootpaste to get it to come out.

That aside, the texture and feel of this gloss is fabulous. It's quite possible you've never had a lip gloss this creamy-smooth and non-sticky. It's incredibly moisturizing and soft.

This is definitely more of a "play" gloss for casual days and when you want to satisfy that sweet tooth as opposed to days when you want a gloss that stays on the job during the day. But as a more fun gloss, I like it.

Feisty Kitten Lip Palette

What They Say: "Feisty Kitten won’t leave home without her lip gloss or her plastic. Now your essentials for going out & about are good to go in one portable package. These six gorgeous shades of shiny lip color - plus a brush - come in a slide-open case. And they get even prettier when you replace the lid with your own credit card (or ID). Travel light on your next night out…ditch the purse and put a Feisty Kitten in your pocket."

Jen's Experience: I am not one to carry a huge bag when I go out on the town, but it seems like lipsticks and glosses are the one thing that I just cannot do without. I'll pile in a lip stain, a plumper and maybe some extra little glosses, just for good measure, even in the tiniest of purses.

Well, no more. I still carry my little purses, but I love the Feisty Kitten lip glosses. There's a wide variety of colors, so you don't have to make difficult choices on your way out the door. They go on very sheer (even the deepest shades of the palette) and they have a great tingle when you first apply them. My lips feel moisturized for a long time, even when I am sipping on a cocktail.

I don't know that I would trust my credit card or my driver's license next to these soft lip glosses, but I have to say, this is a great idea for a product. Next time you're out on the town with that tiny new clutch (or no purse at all), this is the gloss to have!

Urban Decay Big Fatty Lip Plumper

What They Say: "Watch your lips swell with this incredible plumping lip gloss. With a subtle gold sheen that reflects light, it enhances your new lush lips. So take a hit, light up a smile, feel the burn, and experience psychedelic results. Lips look fuller and fine lines disappear. The wand features the perfect flocked applicator for plumping evenly."

Jen's Experience: I think lip plumpers are the greatest make-up innovation since concealer. This lip plumper's a little different from most, with a nice gold shimmer that really adds a great shine to my lips. It doesn't produce the same level of plumping, as, say, LipFusion, but it does reduce the fine lines in my lips and makes them look a little shapelier. The one other con for this particular product is that it's not super long-lasting. If you're not sipping your water bottle all day, it might last an hour or two, but otherwise, it's gone in no time flat.

Overall, if you think of this as a lip gloss with benefits, I think you'll be pleased with the results. You get some the lip smoothing action without the nasty burn that you find in a lot of the lip plumpers, and it tastes great (very tropical). A fun addition to your bathroom counter or your purse!

Urban Decay Eye Shadow

What They Say: "Urban's pigment-intense, low binder shadows make for a color-rich sparkle and shimmer. Incredibly blendable. Very versatile. Try them wet, use them dry. Get sparkle, shimmer, matte or sheen looks, it's your choice.

-Easily layered - get a sheer effect or a dramatic look
-Super soft, silky texture
-Staying power - lasts all day and into the night
-Shimmers are prismatic; mattes are creamy

Tip: Use the shadows dry for a softer look, wet for more dramatic eyes. Dust on your face and shoulders with our Powder brush for an unearthly shimmer."

Jen's Experience: When I first got some of these eyeshadows, they seemed so bright and shimmery that I reserved them for nighttime. I wore them dry first with just a single layer, but once I became used to the bright colors, like Green Goddess and Midnight Cowboy, I was hooked. I ventured to layering them to get a very intense effect. Wetting my eyeshadow brush before applying gives the shadow the appearance that it was painted on. I found that it really did stay on all night, but it definitely stayed on better if I applied it wet. I also found that applying it in multiple layers over a base made it more long lasting than applying it in a single layer. As would be expected, I suppose. After a few weeks of wearing this stuff strictly out on the town, I have branched out and I wear some nearly every day to work. I avoid the more sparkly colors and wear the more matte or frosted colors and only in a single layer. It's like that one final piece of jewelry that just pulls your outfit together.

Overall, I think Urban Decay's eye shadows are absolutely outstanding. They're versatile, the colors are fantastic, and they don't bother my eyes. These great shadows are a definite buy -- not just one, but three or four!

Urban Decay Surreal Skin Liquid Foundation

What They Say: "Oil-free liquid foundation that won't clog pores or cause breakouts. It is vitamin infused with a light, silky texture. This product feels sheer and light, yet gives a medium coverage to the skin. Even better, you can layer it all over for a more polished look, or just in those places where you need it--total flexibility and it won't cake! It's everything you always wanted in a foundation: oil-free, vitamin-infused, buildable coverage, lasts all day, slips right on, doesn't break down, won't clog pores, a totally natural look."

Jen's Experience: I am always in the market for a great foundation.  In the summer, I go for something thinner, in the winter something thicker, but something that makes my complexion look even and flawless is invaluable when you're trying to look great.   The color I was set to try was "Hallucination", the medium tone for this product and I was a little concerned that I was going to have flashbacks of when I was 12 and bought my first drugstore foundation that was (at least) two shades too dark for me.  When I applied it, though, it melted into my skin.  It blended perfectly even though the shade was a little darker than my skin, leaving me a little more golden looking, but not like I am wearing a mask at all.  It did a great job covering up my pores and small blemishes, and under my eyes reduced my dark circles.  I've worn this to work as well as out on the town and I find that it last all night, till I wash it off.  Yes, this is definitely a fabulous product!  One complaint: I can't get the hang of the dispenser at the top.  I think this would be the perfect product if they used a more standard dispenser.  It doesn't make a mess or anything, I just have a hard time getting the foundation out of the bottle.  If I can just figure that out, this may be my new every day foundation!

Urban Decay Skyscraper Mascara in Gotham

Since I have been searching for the perfect mascara, I have received lots of great suggestions from DeLush readers.  If there's a mascara (or any product) that you love or you'd like to see us review, please email us!   I definitely add your suggestions to my shopping list.  This particular mascara was suggested to me by Ms. Pants, and is a stand-out among the mascaras I have tested so far.

From the Urban Decay website: "Finally, mascara that makes a statement!

Our lash-lengthening Skyscraper Mascara...able to leap tall buildings in a single bound...well, almost... Girls seeking voluminous lashes, eye-opening looks in pigment-rich, ever-lasting color... look no further! This mascara turns puny lashes to long, pillars of strength instantly.

What's Skyscraper Mascara's secret weapon? Shu Extract the ancient Chinese herb that promotes health, pigmentation and prevents hair loss--a cosmetic first, never before used for this purpose. Skyscraper Mascara rivals all the big names in terms of enhancing lashes and making them appear fuller and thicker thanks to the gurus at our world-class labs.

Even the custom brush is world-class; it's designed to pump up your volume in 3 ways: application/thickening (flat side), lengthening (fuzzy side), and definition (spiral tip). Housed in a sleek silver tube, the Skyscraper Mascara coats every lash for shameless, guiltless, eminently battable perfection. "

Jen's Experience:  Sounds fantastic, right?   Well, I can say with conviction that all their claims aren't just marketing mumbo-jumbo.  First off, the brush really is unique, and combines everything good about the applicator wands for other mascaras.  As a result, it coats every lash without a lot of work and clumping.  The look is very dramatic, rivaling even the results of the Bad Gal Mascara.  However, unlike the Bad Gal Mascara, it doesn't end up under my eyes in the first 5 minutes I am wearing it.  I wish I could say that it lasts all day, but unfortunately, that is this mascara's only shortcoming.  It remains one of my favorites, and an essential for a night on the town.

Urban Decay XXX Shine in Carney

What They Say: "Shine on, bright stars... XXX Shine Cooling Lip Gloss combines a zip of peppermint with lots of shine to create a super-sassy lip treat that's definitely got some spark to it-- your lips will actually tingle! With one minty slick, lips are left lustrous and cool, and breath is instantly refreshed-- a guaranteed recipe for a little canoodling.

Housed in a sleek squeeze tube with a special, styley metal cap, Urban Decay XXX Shine Cooling Lip Gloss comes in seven gleaming variations. Layer on the shine with Urban Decay XXX Shine Cooling Lip Gloss... because luscious lips will always be in style!"

Jen's Experience:  I found this awesome lip gloss while shopping in New Orleans at Fifi Mahoney's, a fabulous wig and makeup shop.  I tried it on and abolsutely had to have it.  In the container, it looks like it will be bubblegum colored, but on my lips, it was almost nude or a little darker.  It's very thick, so it takes a little getting used to, but I absolutely love the peppermint tingle when you first put it on.  This is a fantastic gloss for a night on the town -- it lasts a long time and it really makes your lips look flawless.  My only complaint is that my hair is attracted to it like a magnet.

Tips:  Wear alone or on top of a lip stain or penciled in lips.
