Review: Giorgio Armani Maestro Liquid Eyeliner

giorgioarmanimaestro.jpgWhat They Say: A long-lasting, water-based liquid eyeliner with a tapered pen tip that provides ultimate application precision. This unique calligraphic tool produces sharp contrast and definition to the eyes. The matte black liquid shade creates a sultry and dramatic look.

* Precise application
* Long-lasting formula
* Elegant matte black shade

Application techniques:
For subtle definition, use the tip of the liquid eye liner to dot color onto the base of the lashes. For more dramatic impact, use the slanted side of the tip to create a wider line boldly extending beyond the eye.

Melissa Says: Liquid liners are always easier to handle and apply when they have a felt pen tip. That was something that got me off on the right foot with this product. Not only is the tip precise, but it is strong enough not to end up weakened and undependable like some lesser-quality felt tips, and yet it isn't so hard that it is uncomfortable when applying.

Okay, but what about the product inside the pen? It goes on without glopping, but makes a pretty and matte line. It lasted all day for me on the upper lids, but did tend to slip a little from my lower lash line, though I didn't tend to use it much there because of its intensity. Usually when doing a full smoky look around the eye I use pencil under the eyes, while using an intense liquid like this on the upper lash line.

This is not only a beautiful intense liner, but if you do dot it between the upper lashes, they look fuller and your eyes pop a little. This pen makes black liner easy and beautiful.

Review: Giorgio Armani ArmaniSilk Lipstick (in Fall 2007 Leather Collection shades)

giorgioarmanisilk07.jpgWhat They Say: "Multi-faceted creamy color provocatively clings to the curves of your lips for luxurious, lasting comfort. An exceptional blend of Micro silk powders™ creates a sensual, finely woven veil of rich color that glides onto the lips - dressing them like silk. Available in a palette of 18 signature shades with 3 must-have fashion top coat lip accessories to be layered for a matte, satin, or sparkling effect.

* High color cream lipstick
* Exquisite silk finish
* Luxurious lasting comfort"

Melissa Says: Not only is this formula (which I had never previously tried) incredibly soft and moisturizing, but these two shades (55 & 56) for fall from Armani's 2007 Leather Collection are beautiful and versatile. The deep red-burgundy has a gorgeous sheen that adds depth and is a perfect choice for a polished and sophisticated look, while the soft nude beige is a shimmer-free neutral to partner with fall's smoky eyes or your usual look.

This lipstick feels very comfortable and creamy, yet not thick or heavy. It's not particularly longer-lasting than other popular lipstick formulas, but then again it's not touted as long-wear by nature. Personally I had no issue with the wear and only needed to touch up once in a while. From the sleek casing to the contoured shape and super-soft feel, this lipstick fits right in with the glamour of the season.

Review: Giorgio Armani Eye Mania Palette from Fall 2007 Leather Collection

giorgioeyemania.jpgWhat They Say: "Drawing inspiration from Armani's exquisite collection of leather accessories, the eye mania palette features four versatile shades encased in a luxurious black snakeskin print compact. This elegant eye shadow palette is an accessory all on its own; a unique expression of the Armani style. The collection of pink and violet hues in matte, satin, and shimmering finishes creates a sophisticated look for Fall 2007. Limited Edition.

Eye Shadow Shades:
satin pink beige
soft shimmering pink
matte deep purple
matte ashwood

Application Techniques:
Apply matte ashwood all over your eyelid, blending matte deep purple into your crease and soft shimmering pink above the crease. Finish by adding satin pink beige into the inner corners of your eye."

Melissa Says: It was as if this palette was created just to make me happy. The colors just happen to contain the shades that look best with my eye color, and they apply more smoothly than any shadow I've used. Not only does this shadow blend beautifully, but there is not a crease to be found after wearing it for hours. True, this is more than most of us are typically prepared to spend for shadow on a regular basis, but the luxury of the formula combined with the beautiful shades and pretty compact make this a splurge that's worth it if you're looking to spoil yourself. If this selection of colors doesn't work as well for your coloring, I would still highly recommend one of the other versions of Eye Mania palletes.

Review: Giorgio Armani Lip Shimmer (from Bronze Mania 2007 collection, shade 34)

giorgiolipshimmer.jpgWhat They Say: "Embellish lips with this iridescent, sparkling gloss. Lavishes lips with a sultry veil of color. Leaves a shimmering, elegant finish. Paint your lips with the precise brush applicator."

• Sophisticated, shimmering translucent gloss
• Unique high precision brush applicator

Application techniques: Add Lip Shimmer over lipstick to give more depth, intensity and shine to the shade."

What Lisa Says: What a gorgeous product not only for what's left of summer but for fall as well. The picture doesn't do this gloss justice. It's literally an orange with gold shimmer upon opening the box.

For those looking for a gloss to wear alone or simply with a nude lip pencil, this isn't for you. But, if you're looking for something to add not only gloss but a little sophistication almost any lip color you have, this is truly beautiful. Alone, it leaves no color. It's glossy with tiny gold flecks that are difficult to see unless you're up close. It doesn't last much longer than an hour or so on bare lips. Brushed over lip color, that's when this gloss' color comes out! The subtle tangerine makes whatever you're wearing just POP, and the gold shimmer is lovely. Yes, it lasts longer over lipstick. I've tried this over everything from MAC's "Overdone", Smashbox's "Prop" to Laura Mercier's "Baby Lips" and "Russet" lip pencils. It was gorgeous on each one of them and added just enough color to change up the original and enough shimmer to make it attention getting. It just goes with about everything.

Rather than the usual sponge, the brush applicator makes application easy and precise.

The ONLY thing I can find wrong with this product is that it must be reapplied every couple of hours and that cost it one "lippie". Other than that, I think it's just about perfect.

Review: Giorgio Armani Bronze Mania Sheer Bronzer

Untitled-1.jpgWhat They Say: " Create the glow of sun-kissed skin with Sheer bronzer, a soft micro-fine bronzing powder. Copper and bronze hues warm skin, creating a sculpted glow with shimmering, honey highlights. All skin types.

* Soft, micro-fine texture
* Shimmery, sun-kissed effect
* Buildable color

Application techniques:
Apply with the Blush brush where light naturally hits the face-across forehead, cheekbones and temples - for a healthy, radiant complexion."

Melissa Says: Opening this compact got me a little scared. The shade I was testing was really ruddy and dark. Granted, this was the most orange-y shade in the lineup (8), but I wanted to see how usable this really was. I was also highly suspicious of the "sheer" aspect. Surprisingly, the color did not create a dark and muddy look like it seemed it would, but instead was very light and buildable. It's important, of course, to swirl your brush and then lightly blow the excess off to avoid any blotches as with many powder products, but I found this to be quite wearable. I think my ideal shade would have been 5, but even this intimidating color in the compact brought a pretty, subtle warmth to my face.

It does last pretty well and doesn't look streaky or create shine, which is great. This is a very nice product if you can afford the splurge, but otherwise I would stick to something a bit less expensive that gives you a comparably pretty glow.

Review: Giorgio Armani Summer Foundation

What They Say: "Enhance the complexion with a pure veil of subtle, golden color. A unique formula comprised of natural colored minerals and translucent micronised pigments allows for the most natural, glowing finish. Light, fresh texture for optimum application and provides all-day hydration and comfort."

Jen's Experience: I love the light texture of this foundation, and the way the tiniest little bit completely removes all the imperfections in my skin. What I don't love is the color -- this foundation puts my skin tone firmly out of pale pink to deep in Oompa-Loompa land. The first time I used it, I found that I had to cover my neck and decolletage in order to blend it in. And then I covered THAT with a layer of my normal foundation. The good news is that I've found a good use of it -- blended in with a more reasonable foundation color, it actually makes a good bronzer and really helps to sculpt my cheekbones. The key is very, very small amounts for my lily white skin. If you've already got a little bit of summer glow, this may work for you as planned, but if you're thinking you're going to get a totally faux glow with this foundation, I recommend looking elsewhere.

Review: Giorgio Armani Bronzing Duo

What They Say: "Giorgio Armani brings its skill of combining color to the creation of this unique bronzing powder duo. With one cream sculpting shade paired with a complementary powder illuminating shade, this duo can be used to accent or add radiance to the cheekbones, forehead, eyebrows and around the eyes.

Sculpt and Accent with the matte-bronze shade in a smooth, cream texture that glides seamlessly onto skin allowing a customized finish to the skin.

Illuminate and Radiate with the shimmering-bronze shade in an exclusive luminous powder blend allowing a natural glow finish to the skin. "

Jen's Experience: This was my first experience with Giorgio Armani cosmetics, and I was excited to try them out after seeing so many ads in my favorite print magazines. I've also been all about trying bronzers this season so that I can look like I've gotten at least a little sun on my naturally pale skin. This is the first one I've tried with a sheer cream texture, much like you've seen in cream blushes. The texture makes it super-easy to blend and create just the right effects - a little more under the cheekbones for more of a scuplting effect, a little less on the chin and nose for just a little sun-kissed glow. This duo also comes with a shimmery powder that you can use as a coordinating highlighter. I've tried it on the apples of my cheeks and on my browbone, and I can't tell that I've done anything no matter how much I apply. So while I like the bronzer a lot and find it a worthwhile add to my beauty routine, the powder portion is not really worth the effort. For those with pale skin like me, the bronzer is worth trying if you've got the cash.
